World Cancer Day

Each year 4 February is commemorated as World Cancer Day.

The theme of World Cancer Day 2025, “United by Unique”, highlights the value of individualised, patient-centered care in the fight against cancer. It highlights how important it is to personalise treatment to each patient’s unique needs.

5 Common Types of Cancer –

Breast cancer-Maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, avoiding alcohol, and getting regular tests like mammograms for early detection can all help reduce the risk of breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in women.

Lung cancer-Although smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer, radon gas, secondhand smoke, and air pollution exposure can all play a role. The risk can be considerably decreased by giving up smoking and staying away from contaminants in the environment.

Cervical cancer-The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the primary cause of cervical cancer. The HPV vaccine, routine Pap smears, and safe sex practices can all lower the risk of cervical cancer.

Liver cancer-Obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, and Hepatitis B and C infections increase the risk of liver cancer. Preventive steps include avoiding excessive alcohol consumption and receiving a hepatitis vaccination.

Skin cancer-The largest risk factor for melanoma, or skin cancer, is excessive UV exposure. Regular skin checks, avoiding tanning beds, and applying sunscreen can all aid in prevention.
